Having studied dance as a child, but finding her ankles too weak to go en pointe, Erin has found joy in creating dancewear and costumes for all types of dancers. Although Erin is trained as a classical violist, she found herself using sewing as her creative outlet for most of her adult life. While studying towards a degree in Arts Management, she still managed to take all the core costuming classes, learning as much as she could while working in the school costume shop. Before receiving her Bachelor’s degree in 2002, Erin was hired by the Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre’s costume department, where she had such duties as dye mistress, haberdasher, milliner, as well as cobbler. Most recently, Erin worked as both Marketing Director and Costume Mistress for the up-and-coming Texture Contemporary Ballet. She has since decided to devote her efforts to fully developing her own line of dancewear, featuring her unique and eye-catching HoopTus.
In addition to working with dancers, Erin has worked with actors and directors for small theatrical productions on the east coast. Musicians often find Erin easy to work with, given her awareness of the specialized clothing needs their performances require. In the same way that costumes help actors develop their character, custom designed stagewear can help a musician create a one-of-a-kind stage presence.
All of this extensive theatrical experience has helped Erin make exceptional contributions to the Pittsburgh wedding industry as well. She has worked as a event coordinator, helping brides have a worry free day. Erin's experience as a milliner has given her the skills to create beautiful and unique bridal headpieces as well as completing exceptional bridal and bridal party alterations and custom accessories.
With all of this, Erin still finds time to teach to both young people and adults. In college, Erin acted as a teaching assistant to the costume professors and began her teaching career by helping theater majors learn the art of sewing and alterations. Recently, Erin was a teaching artist at The Neighborhood Academy in the Stanton Heights neighborhood of Pittsburgh. She currently offers both knitting and sewing classes in and around the Pittsburgh area. (For more information, sign up for TRH's educational email list.)
